Are you looking for a high-quality N-gauge passenger car that will bring the international EuroCity atmosphere between Prague and Hamburg to your layout? The ASM Arndt Special Models 195453 N Passenger Car EC 176, Ampz 146, 1st Class, CD, Era VI is a particularly appealing addition for model railroading enthusiasts who collect detailed versions of modern passenger cars from the Czech Railways or wish to operate them on their layouts. With the train’s destination listed as EC 176 “Johannes Brahms” from Prague Main Station to Hamburg-Altona, the model has a clear and attractive real-world counterpart.
The car is an Ampz 146 1st-class car and bears the car number 73 54 10-91 001-3. This makes the model ideal for modern international passenger train formations of Era VI. Especially on N-gauge layouts, such cars allow you to recreate long and authentic EuroCity trains without taking up too much space. Its association with the CD railway company makes the car even more interesting for model railroading enthusiasts who wish to expand their fleet with vehicles from the Czech long-distance rail network.
The model impresses with its prototypical design, both inside and out. The precise paintwork and decals ensure a clean, high-quality appearance and give the car its authentic long-distance rail character. Many separately attached parts, some made of etched metal, highlight the fine level of detail and make the model very interesting even upon closer inspection.
In particular, the faithful reproduction of the car skirts and the underbody contributes to the harmonious overall appearance. Separately installed power units match the condition of the prototype. The SGP-300 bogies are also precisely reproduced and feature fine engravings. This gives the passenger car a high-quality technical appearance that complements the modern EuroCity interior well.
The car’s prototype is one of the EuroCity passenger cars that Czech Railways procured from Siemens in Austria in two batches, starting in 1999/2000 and again in 2006. The need arose due to growing passenger rail traffic and the requirement to have cars capable of a maximum permitted speed of 200 km/h. The car design was heavily based on the pressurized passenger cars delivered to the Austrian Federal Railways starting in 1989, but was further refined both technically and visually.
For first class, only open-plan cars with 2+1 seating were provided. The open-plan area was and is divided by a glass partition with a passageway. Until 2007, this partition also separated the smoking from the nonsmoking section. As a result, the Ampz 146 has a clearly defined prototype concept that distinguishes it from classic compartment cars and makes it a particularly good fit for modern international long-distance trains.
The car is equipped with close-coupling kinematics and a NEM coupler mount. This allows it to be seamlessly integrated into compatible train formations and makes it ideal for longer EuroCity trainsets. The Ampz has a length over buffers of 165 mm, giving the model a convincing presence in N-scale.
The car is prepared for the installation of interior lighting from the accessory line. Power is supplied brushlessly via metal bearing cups in the bogies and half-axles. This makes the model an interesting starting point for model railroaders who wish to visually enhance their passenger train later on. Especially with modern passenger cars, interior lighting can significantly enhance the visual impact at the station or in evening layout scenes.
The prototype cars are primarily used on EuroCity trains from Hamburg and Kiel to Prague. In addition, they are also used in domestic Czech service as well as on trains to Slovakia. Destinations such as Aarhus in Denmark, Binz on Rügen, Szczecin in Poland, Ljubljana in Slovenia, as well as Linz, Vienna, and Budapest have been and continue to be among the destinations served by these cars. As a result, the model opens up many possibilities for international train formations on your N-gauge layout.
If you’d like to expand your modern long-distance fleet with a detailed CD 1st-class passenger car, the ASM Arndt Spezial Model 195453 is an excellent choice. Add this Ampz 146 from the EC 176 “Johannes Brahms” to your N-gauge collection and create impressive EuroCity trains from Era VI.
