The locomotives were originally built for Norges Statsbaner as the Di.6 series at Maschinenbau Kiel in Kiel. After their return from Norway in 1998, they underwent extensive conversion and modification at Danske Statsbaner. They were subsequently added to Dispolok’s fleet as ME26s and leased to various rail transport companies.
The ME26 was primarily used in freight service. Between 2000 and 2004, several locomotives were in service as leased vehicles for the Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois. There, among other things, they hauled scrap trains from Bettembourg to Ehrang near Trier. As a result, the model offers an interesting backdrop for realistic freight train scenes and cross-border traffic.
