The prototype for this locomotive has had an exciting history. Originally, the locomotives were built for Norges Statsbaner as the Di.6 series at Maschinenbau Kiel in Kiel. In 1998, they returned from Norway. After extensive modifications and adaptations at Danske Statsbaner, they were added to Dispolok’s fleet as ME26s and leased to various rail operators.
The ME26 was used primarily in freight service. Between 2000 and 2004, several locomotives were in service as leased units with the Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois. There, among other duties, they hauled scrap trains from Bettembourg to Ehrang near Trier. It is precisely this operational background that makes the model particularly appealing for layouts depicting cross-border freight traffic, leased locomotive operations, or modern private railway scenes.
Its classification as Era V fits this time period very well and makes the locomotive a harmonious addition to modern freight train formations.
