The Bemo 1014800 H0e Württemberg Tss 4 steam locomotive kit is a faithful reproduction of one of the first narrow gauge locomotives on Württemberg soil. After a long time, Bemo is bringing this legendary locomotive type back into the range, both as a kit and as a finished model. The locomotive 12 "Oberstenfeld" is offered in two color variants - classic green and green-grey, a color scheme based on the standard-gauge T3 979 "Eschenau" of the Technoseum Mannheim.
The Tss 4 was built in 1894 by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen and put into service on the Bottwartalbahn. With a track gauge of 750 mm, it was the first narrow-gauge locomotive in Württemberg. Based on the type Ts 4, which was used on the meter-gauge Nagold-Altensteig line, the three locomotives of this series were named after the most important communities in the Bottwartal. Technically, the Tss 4 was particularly characterized by the engine developed by Württemberg's senior civil engineer Adolph Klose, which enabled radial adjustment of the first and last axle. This design was intended to ensure better cornering, but proved to be prone to faults and maintenance-intensive. The reversing characteristics were particularly problematic, which is why turntables were installed at the ends of the track. Due to these challenges, the design was not able to establish itself further and the locomotives were taken out of service in the 1920s.
The K.W.St.E. were the state railroads of Württemberg and operated both standard-gauge and narrow-gauge lines. The introduction of the Tss 4 was part of the efforts to create an efficient railroad infrastructure away from the main lines. Despite technical challenges, narrow-gauge locomotives played an important role in regional development.
The Bemo company is known for its high-quality narrow-gauge models. With many years of experience and great precision, Bemo produces detailed and functional locomotives that are based on the originals both visually and technically. The return of the Tss 4 to the range demonstrates Bemo's commitment to making historically significant locomotives accessible to model railroaders.
The Tss 4 comes from Era I, which covers the period of the state railroads up to 1920, and continued to be operated into Era II. These eras were characterized by technical developments and regional railroad networks, which were operated by the respective state railroads. The reissue of this model allows a historically accurate depiction of early narrow-gauge railroad operation.
The Tss 4 model is designed for the H0e gauge and has a length over buffers of 93.3 mm. It is designed for the 2-wire direct current system (DC) and has a solderable interface that allows subsequent digitization. The minimum radius for the use of this locomotive is 330 mm. The model is equipped with an in-house coupler pocket to ensure a secure connection with other vehicles.
Bemo offers the locomotive in two color variants. The classic green paint scheme corresponds to the original Länderbahn version, while the green-grey paint scheme is based on the latest research into the original color of the standard-gauge T3 979 "Eschenau". This variant faithfully reproduces the historical colors and ensures an even more authentic representation on the model railway layout.
The model impresses with its detailed reproduction of the original Tss 4. The fine engravings and filigree add-on parts make the locomotive a real gem on any H0e layout. The Klose engine in particular, with its complex lever parallelograms, has been reproduced exactly to make the technical sophistication of the original visible.
The model offers various retrofit options. Digitization is possible via the solderable interface, allowing the locomotive to be integrated into modern digital control systems. It is also possible to attach various coupling systems or additional detailing elements to further individualize the model.
The Bemo 1014800 H0e steam locomotive kit Württ. Tss 4 is a must for all model railroaders who value historical accuracy and technical sophistication. The combination of high-quality workmanship, detailed printing and exact reproduction of the Klose engine makes this model a highlight of any H0e layout. The Tss 4 is a perfect addition, especially for layouts that deal with Württemberg's narrow gauge history.
The kit contains all the necessary components for assembling the locomotive as well as detailed building instructions. Depending on the desired color variant, the model can be painted green or green-grey. Also included are instructions for optional digitization and the installation of accessories.
The Tss 4 impresses with an exact replica of the prototype, high-quality workmanship and the option of individual customization. The elaborate detailing ensures an authentic appearance that perfectly captures the character of the original locomotive. With a choice of two color variants, the model offers even more options for the historical design of the model railway layout.
