The Bemo 1014805 H0e steam locomotive E. 12 "Oberstenfeld" is a highly detailed replica of the Württemberg Klose locomotive Tss 4. This model represents locomotive no. 12 "Oberstenfeld" of the Royal Württemberg State Railways (K.W.St.E.) and provides an authentic representation of early narrow-gauge railroad operation in Württemberg. The Tss 4 returns to the Bemo range after a long time and is available both as a finished model and as a kit.
The Tss 4 was built in 1894 by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen and was used on the Bottwartalbahn. It was the first narrow gauge locomotive with 750 mm track gauge on Württemberg soil. Based on the Ts 4 design, which was already in use on the Nagold-Altensteig meter-gauge line, it was equipped with a special engine design developed by Adolph Klose. This design enabled radial adjustment of the first and last axles to facilitate cornering. Despite this innovative technology, the engine proved to be high-maintenance and prone to failure. The locomotive remained in service until the 1920s, when it was taken out of service.
The K.W.St.E. operated both standard-gauge and narrow-gauge lines in Württemberg. The narrow-gauge lines were used to provide efficient access to remote regions. The Tss 4 played an important role in this, but was unable to establish itself in the long term due to technical challenges. After a few years, Württemberg opted for the more robust Mallett locomotives of the Tssd type.
Bemo is known for the high-quality realization of narrow-gauge models. The return of the Tss 4 to the range demonstrates the manufacturer's commitment to reproducing historical locomotives with great attention to detail. The Tss 4 is designed for the H0e gauge and has a length over buffers of 93.3 mm. The model is designed for the 2-wire direct current system and has a solderable interface for subsequent digitization. The minimum radius for operation is 330 mm. The locomotive is compatible with other Bemo narrow gauge vehicles thanks to the in-house coupler pocket.
The locomotive is painted in a classic green livery, which corresponds to the original color scheme of the K.W.St.E.. The intricate printing and fine engravings make the model particularly authentic.
The model impresses with its exact reproduction of the Klose engine with its complex lever parallelograms. The detailed design allows a realistic representation of this technically special locomotive. The high-quality workmanship ensures a long service life and excellent running characteristics.
The locomotive can be retrofitted with a digital decoder to integrate it into digital model railroad systems. Various coupling systems and detailing sets are also available to further refine the model.
