The Bemo 1016853 steam locomotive 99 553 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) from Era III is a highly detailed model of the Saxon IVK series, which was specially developed for the route network on Rügen. Due to the increasing volume of traffic after the Second World War, especially in the summer months, the DR was looking for additional locomotives for use on the Baltic Sea island. Between 1952 and 1970, a total of 17 locomotives were used on Rügen, eight of which were permanently based at Putbus depot, including 99 553.
The model of the 99 553 is characterized by its faithful replica and was elaborately handcrafted. It consists of over 230 individual parts, most of which are made of brass and nickel silver, which ensures exceptional attention to detail. The air tanks, which were required for the air brakes and were a striking feature of the locomotives used on Rügen, are particularly striking.
The 99 553 model is equipped with a high-quality Faulhaber bell-type armature motor, which ensures particularly smooth running characteristics. The motor is equipped with two flywheels, which guarantee a smooth and jerk-free ride. The plastic gearbox also contributes to the excellent driving characteristics. The drive as well as the power consumption are provided via all axles, which optimizes reliability and operation on the model railway layout.
Thanks to the precise production and the high level of detail, this model is an absolute highlight for collectors and model railroaders. With a length (length over buffers) of 103.5 mm, the steam locomotive fits perfectly into H0e model railway layouts and brings the atmosphere of historic Rügen rail traffic to the tracks.
The Bemo 1016853 is a finished model that has been painstakingly produced by hand in metal construction. The more than 230 individual parts are precisely assembled, with many of the attachments made of brass and nickel silver. This not only gives the model an impressive level of detail, but also makes it particularly robust and durable.
Important for model railroaders: The model is designed for the H0e gauge (direct current) and cannot be converted to H0m. This special feature should be taken into account when purchasing, as this is an exclusive model for the narrow gauge.
After the Second World War, traffic on the narrow-gauge lines on the island of Rügen increased considerably, especially during the peak tourist season. In order to meet the demand, a total of 17 locomotives of various series were tested and used between 1952 and 1970, of which the 99 553 was one of the more durable machines. Eight locomotives remained stationed at Putbus depot for a longer period of time to serve the Rügen lines.
A striking feature of these locomotives were the air tanks mounted on the boiler, which were required for the compressed air brakes. This class played a central role in freight and passenger transport on the narrow-gauge lines of the Baltic Sea island and is still a well-known symbol of Rügen's railroad history today.
The Bemo 1016853 steam locomotive 99 553 is an exceptional model that impresses with its detailed production and high-quality technology. With over 230 individual parts, a bell-shaped armature motor with two flywheel masses and smooth running thanks to the plastic gearing, this locomotive is a highlight for any H0e model railway layout. The 99 553 is an absolute must for collectors and model railroaders who value prototypical models.
