Would you like a model with a varied operating history and real prototype reference for your H0e layout? The Bemo VL 23 from the Steiermärkische Landesbahnen brings a piece of narrow-gauge railroad variety to your tracks - as the new 2026 model in the striking, orange original paint scheme, even before its current redesign in white/dark blue from the Steiermarkbahn.
Locomotive VL 23 was built in 1968 as part of the Yugoslavian 740 series and taken over by Steiermärkische Landesbahnen together with its sister VL 22 in 1980. After the end of freight operation on the Thörlerbahn, it was used on the Feistritztalbahn and was loaned to the Zillertalbahn from 1999 to 2003, where it transported rolling stock timber trains. It later moved to the Murtal valley before becoming the main locomotive for timber trains in the Zillertal in 2021.
The model shows the locomotive in its condition before its last repainting - as an orange loan locomotive, as it was used on the Zillertalbahn. The later version in white/dark blue will appear at a later date - this model represents the V-VI era in the authentic original design.
With a die-cast frame, drive and power consumption across all four axles and a 5-pole motor, the locomotive is a powerful working machine. Directional LED headlights and cab lighting (digitally switchable) provide a modern look. The model is fully digitized with a sound function via Next18 interface. Prototypical body details, buffer beams and attached grab irons complete the picture.
The Bemo VL 23 is a versatile model with a real history, convincing technology and regional character. A must for H0e fans with a focus on Austrian narrow gauge railroads. Secure now - new shape 2026!
