Are you looking for a powerful narrow gauge diesel locomotive with real regional history? The Bemo VL 22 from the Styrian State Railways (StLB) brings the historic freight train power of the Thörler and Feistritz Valley Railway to your H0e layout in true detail. This new 2026 model is impressive with digital sound, precise add-on parts and a striking prototype from Austria.
The original locomotive of the VL 22 was built in 1968 as part of the 740 series by Duro Dakovic for the Yugoslavian state railroad. In the 1980s, the StLB took over two of these locomotives for use on the Thörlerbahn and Feistritztalbahn. The VL 22 was modernized several times, received a more powerful MTU engine and in 1995 the new StLB design in red. After the end of freight traffic on the Feistritztalbahn, it was used in the Mur Valley - for work trains and occasional transportation.
The Bemo model shows the locomotive in its condition up to approx. 2023 - i.e. without the switch box and fire extinguisher box installed later on the short front end. This makes this model ideal for Era V-VI train formations in regional traffic and industrial use.
The chassis is made of solid die-cast material, drive and power are supplied via all four axles. The 5-pole motor ensures a powerful and smooth ride. Directional LED headlights and digitally switchable driver's cab lighting round off the functional package. Equipped with a Next18 interface and digital+sound, the locomotive is immediately ready for operation.
The Bemo VL 22 is a model with history, character and modern equipment. Ideal for anyone who wants to represent Austrian narrow gauge technology on their H0e layout. Secure now - new shape 2026!
