About the model: BEMO is presenting the RhB Za 8109 articulated tank car for Era V-VI. The car has a prototypical paint scheme and the finest printing. The model has a length of 166 mm.
About the prototype: In 2000, the RhB developed a project for the further use of a total of 18 older tank cars with self-supporting tank containers. The plan was to cut the tanks in the middle and weld in a 2000 mm long tube as an extension element. However, the idea ultimately turned out quite differently than planned, as the company commissioned with the conversion, JMR, was not convinced by the idea and ended up manufacturing new boilers and frames.Only the bogies of coaches 8155-8162 and 8173-8182 were used again and helped to reduce the purchase price. However, this willingness to make savings came at the price of insufficient load capacity, so that cistern wagons with these bogies had to be marked accordingly and could not be fully loaded. This inevitably led to overfilling, as not all transporters were familiar with these restrictions. As a result, there were repeated accidents with overloaded wagons.
