The Bemo 3274120 WR-S 3820 Piano Bar Car is an exceptional passenger car of the Rhaetian Railway and represents a special chapter in Swiss railway history. The model is designed for H0m gauge and is assigned to Era VI. As the piano-bar car of the “Alpine Classic Pullman Express,” it adds an exclusive vehicle with a unique character to the RhB’s high-quality train formations.
Its history dates back to 1928, when the former Bernina Railway put two dining cars into service. Until their own kitchens were installed, these cars were each coupled with a separate Mitropa kitchen car. For decades, they were an integral part of passenger service and helped shape the appearance of the legendary “Glacier Express” trains, where their service ended in 1987.
After the end of their service in regular long-distance traffic, one of the two cars began an extraordinary second career. In 2001, it returned to the Rhaetian Railway from the Furka Mountain Steam Railway. As part of a major renovation, the car was first converted back into a lounge car before taking on its current role as a piano bar in 2010.
This conversion created an exclusive car that impresses not only with its historical heritage but also with its special ambiance. The piano bar is part of a high-quality tourist offering and underscores the nostalgic luxury of the “Alpine Classic Pullman Express.”
To match the saloon cars, the piano bar car was also given the characteristic blue—and later two-tone—paint scheme of the “Alpine Classic Pullman Express.” This color scheme gives the car an elegant and distinctive appearance and makes it immediately recognizable in the train formation.
In the model, this distinctive look is convincingly rendered and blends harmoniously into corresponding RhB train formations. The car is suitable both as an eye-catcher in display cases and for prototypical use on the layout.
The piano bar car is designed for H0m gauge and thus fits perfectly with the meter-gauge vehicles of the Rhaetian Railway. With its length over buffers, it can also be used on layouts with limited space, provided the required minimum radius is maintained.
As part of modern RhB train formations from Era VI, the Bemo 3274120 is an excellent addition for anyone who places special value on historic vehicles with an exclusive character.
