The Bemo 9453118 0m ballast wagon Fd 8658 is an exclusive new model and a precise replica of the historic self-unloading wagons of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). With its realistic design and functional elements such as the movable loading flaps, this wagon offers model railroaders a detailed and versatile addition to their 0m layout. Ideally suited for use in ballast trains or railroad construction sites, the Fd 8658 is a perfect blend of aesthetics and function.
In 1965, the RhB procured ten two-axle self-unloading wagons with the numbers OS 8656 to 8665 from the Talbot company. These wagons were renamed Fd from 1969 and were given a central role in the transportation of bulk goods such as ballast and sand. Their load weight of 15 tons and their robust construction made them indispensable vehicles in construction site traffic. Some of the wagons were later converted into rail service wagons and others were passed on to railroad companies such as the Montreux-Berner Oberland-Bahn (MOB). Similar models were also supplied under license to other railroads such as the FO and SBB Brünig.
The RhB is known for its spectacular mountain routes, which are essential for both passenger and freight transport. Special vehicles such as the Fd series ballast wagons are particularly important for the construction and maintenance of the lines. The Fd 8658 wagon was used for various tasks in alpine terrain and is therefore part of the RhB's freight transport history.
The Swiss manufacturer Bemo stands for precise model railroads with the highest quality standards. The Fd 8658 ballast wagon is a prime example of this perfection. When creating the model, particular emphasis was placed on the detailed representation of the frame construction, the braking equipment and the movable loading flaps. The result is a realistic model that is both visually and functionally impressive.
The model of the Fd 8658 ballast wagon is assigned to eras IV and V, which cover the period from the late 1960s to the 1990s. During this time, the ballast wagons were used intensively, both in regular bulk goods traffic and in special track construction projects. This model can be used to realistically recreate historical train scenarios and construction sites.
The ballast wagon has a length over buffers (LüP) of 170.5 mm and is designed on a scale of 1:45 for the 0m gauge (narrow gauge, 22.5 mm). The power system is based on 2-conductor direct current (DC), making the model compatible with standard 0m layouts. The minimum radius is 1200 mm, which enables use on generously designed track systems. The Bemo coupling receptacle ensures a stable connection with other wagons and locomotives.
The model impresses with its exact reproduction of the technical details. The frame detailing includes the braking equipment, the suspension of the wheels and the precisely reproduced loading flaps. These can be opened as on the prototype to simulate the loading process or the unloading of the bulk material. The ballast container is equipped with a removable load insert that can be realistically loaded with model ballast.
The fine engravings and lettering, the brake lines and the functional elements give the model a high degree of authenticity. The movable flaps are not only visually attractive, but also enable interactive scenarios on the layout.
The Fd 8658 ballast wagon is painted in the typical RhB color scheme and has prototypical lettering. All technical markings and serial numbers have been carefully applied to make the model as realistic as possible. The subtle ageing ensures that the wagon gives the impression of a regularly used ballast wagon.
The model is fully compatible with other Bemo-0m vehicles and can be easily integrated into existing train formations. The robust coupling ensures a secure connection, even with longer freight trains or demanding track layouts. Model railroaders can optionally equip the car with additional loads or figures to create even more realistic scenarios.
The scope of delivery includes the Fd 8658 ballast wagon in its detailed version as well as a removable load insert. The model is supplied securely packaged for optimum protection during transportation. A leaflet with technical information and care instructions is also included.
The Fd 8658 ballast wagon impresses with its exact replica and its versatility. Whether in construction site traffic, in ballast trains or as part of a historic freight train - this model offers a wide range of possible uses and a high level of detail that will enrich your 0m layout.
To maintain the optimum function and appearance of the model, the wheels, couplings and moving parts should be cleaned regularly. The removable load insert makes it easier to clean the ballast container. For long-term storage, we recommend keeping the model in its original packaging.
With the Bemo 9453118 0m ballast wagon Fd 8658, you can bring a piece of Swiss railroad history to your model railroad layout. The detailed realization, the prototypical functionality and the high quality of workmanship make this model an indispensable component for all RhB fans and demanding model railroaders.
