The Brawa 40999 H0 steam locomotive 01 001 is an absolute highlight for model railroaders and collectors. The 01 001 was the first of a total of ten pre-series locomotives that were delivered to the Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft (DRG) in 1926. It was built by the Borsig company and stationed at the Essen depot and the Hamm Pbf depot. The class 01 played a central role in German long-distance transportation and quickly became the country's best-known express locomotive. Initially, there were still restrictions on its use due to the high axle load of 20 tons, but after the expansion of the rail network, the class 01 became the backbone of German express train traffic.
The model impresses with its faithful reproduction of the boiler, driver's cab and tender, which consist of finely detailed plastic parts. The perforated bar frame and the spoked wheels made of die-cast zinc ensure stability and an authentic look. The individually attached steps and treads, the filigree metal driving and coupling rods and the reproduction of the rear wall of the standing boiler are evidence of the highest precision and attention to detail.
The built-in sound decoder from Döhler & Haass provides a realistic acoustic experience with typical steam locomotive noises such as steam bumping, whistling and engine sounds. The locomotive has prototypical period lighting with a two-light headlight signal that changes in the direction of travel. Flickering fire and engine lighting (Digital EXTRA version) provide additional visual highlights.
Thanks to the four traction tires and the built-in flywheel mass, the locomotive offers excellent driving characteristics, even with long trains. The models are designed for a minimum radius of 360 mm, whereby a radius of 420 mm is recommended for optimum running characteristics. The smoke generator (Seuthe No. 20) can be easily retrofitted and enhances the authentic effect of the model.
