A prototype of international significance

Cars of this type feature a common underframe and a strikingly elevated brakeman’s cab. In Prussia, they were primarily used on express trains that traveled at high speeds over long distances—sometimes even abroad. After World War I, a large portion of these cars remained in the fleet of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, where they initially continued to be used for high-speed passenger service. It was not until the 1930s that more modern car designs replaced the classic four-axle compartment cars in core service; many of these cars were later even used by the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
