With the BC4 compartment car, Brawa offers a historically interesting passenger car detail for your H0 layout. This car represents the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft’s (DRG) first attempts to combine classes while simultaneously implementing technical improvements in passenger service—a genuine piece of interwar railway history.
After consolidating various car fleets from the regional railways, the DRG deployed combined cars such as the BC4 to offer both second and third class in a single vehicle. Originally designated “ABC,” the first-class compartment was later removed, so they were officially classified as BC4. Over the course of their service, many cars received technical upgrades, such as the replacement of basket buffers with sleeve buffers, modified brake hoses, and more modern skylight ventilation elements (“Wendler suction vents” instead of the older “Bachmann caps”).
This model features finely engraved details, numerous separately attached handrails, and individually placed vents. The short-coupler design ensures a clean train connection, and the built-in interior fittings make it ready for service on both day and night trains—since the car is also prepared for the installation of interior lighting.
The BC4 is ideal for use in mixed passenger trains, as a complement to all-third-class cars, or as a nostalgic eye-catcher in museum train operations. On layouts with frequent train service, such as during rush hour, or on lines with longer routes, this car brings historic flair and prototypical accuracy.
