With the Brawa C3 compartment car from the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft, you can add a typical Era II passenger car to your H0 layout. This model represents the widespread use of standardized cars in the mid-20th century—especially in domestic and long-distance rail service.
After the DRG was founded, it quickly became apparent that the rolling stock of the Southwest German Reichsbahn Directorate, in particular, was severely outdated. To improve the situation, large fleets of Prussian compartment cars were transferred—by 1929 alone, approximately 2,500 to the southwest and about 1,000 to Saxony. At the same time, efforts began to convert former freight cars into regular passenger cars by installing benches. These were later designated C3u Pr 04/30. Despite the increasing procurement of modern standardized cars, the classic C3 compartment car remained an important part of rail service for many years—with as many as several thousand units in service until the outbreak of war.
The Brawa model combines fine printing and meticulous paintwork with numerous separately applied details. The interior is factory-installed and prepared for optional interior lighting, which adds extra depth, especially during realistic operation. The windows, roof, and underbody are rendered in rich detail, and many small components enhance the model’s fidelity to the prototype.
Thanks to its close-coupling mechanism, this compartment car can be easily integrated into a train set—whether in interwar-era passenger trains, mixed trains, or museum operations. For use with AC power, Brawa recommends the optional wheel set with order number 2187 (replace only the two outer wheel sets; the middle wheel set remains in place).
