About the model: BRAWA has produced the 1:87 scale model of the DB BPwif-28 standard through coach with great attention to detail. The wagon shines with prototypical paintwork and the finest printing. In addition to an authentic appearance, the model has been equipped with further details, such as extra steps and steps as well as brake shoes at wheel level. The car was also prepared for retrofitting interior lighting.
About the prototype: At the beginning of the 1950s, the German Federal Railroad took up the idea of the Lübeck-Büchner Railroad (LBE) to use passenger trains in push-pull operation. The primary aim was to increase and simplify the frequency and operating procedures on the full route network of conurbations by eliminating the time-consuming transfer of the locomotive at the terminus.
From 1954, a command device from HAGENUK was available for communication between the push-pull command car and the locomotive. Similar to an engine telegraph from the shipping industry, the driver could use it to transmit operating commands to the vehicle operator on the pushing locomotive, which had to be acknowledged. The system was designed in such a way that it could be used regardless of the type of traction, provided the locomotive in question also had a command device.
To transmit the commands, the vehicles in the reversing trains were retrofitted with an additional 10 bar main air tank line and a 15-pole control line and marked with the secondary class symbol "b". The vehicles with a driver's cab were given an "f".
The Essen, Frankfurt/Main, Hanover, Hamburg and Wuppertal directorates had a total of 26 command cars, which were in use until the first half of the 1960s.
