The Brawa Rmms 663 is a typical example of the UIC Standard Type 2, which was added to freight car fleets across Europe beginning in the late 1960s. Designed as an open flat car without side walls, it was perfectly suited for transporting heavy and bulky cargo—from steel sections and machinery to military equipment. With fine engraving, functional stanchions, and rich detailing, this model brings authentic operational realism to your Era IV layout.
Starting in 1968, the Deutsche Bundesbahn procured over 2,600 cars of the 663 and 664 types, plus 660 units with side walls of the 665 type. A special feature: While many European railroads relied on steel side walls, the DB used lightweight aluminum walls. The cars impressed with their robust construction and were also technically modified over time—including being fitted with Y25 bogies or converted into container cars.
The Brawa model features a finely engraved underbody, separately applied spring assemblies, brake changers, and realistic axle bearing replicas. The characteristic插销-type stanchions can be inserted individually, making loading and unloading on the model railroad appear realistic. A close-coupling mechanism ensures reliable operation, even in long block trains or when operated in shunting units.
With the Rmms 663, Brawa has created a technical monument to the era of European railway expansion. The car is ideally suited for realistic freight trains in Era IV—even when combined with other models and international variants. Whether on the main line or on an industrial spur, this car adds a versatile and highly accurate model to any freight car fleet.
