The Brawa 48371 H0 Pwg freight train baggage car of the German State Railroad (DR) from Era III reflects the history of the freight train baggage cars that were used by all German railroad administrations until the 1920s. Until then, freight trains were hand-braked and required a crew consisting of a train driver, packmaster, train conductor, shunter and several brakemen. These people used the accompanying wagon as a place to work and stay. The brakemen spent their time in special brakeman's cabins. The KPEV first procured the Pwg in 1913/14 according to model sheet pr IIa13a, which served as the standard for escort coaches on most German state railroads after the First World War. By 1929, over 7,000 of these carriages had been built, which were used not only in the KPEV area, but also in other regions such as Baden, Bavaria, Württemberg and Saxony. From the end of the 1930s, the Deutsche Reichsbahn removed the continuous running boards and grab rails for safety reasons and carried out further conversion measures, including reinforcements to the car body frame and the removal of the window in the loading compartment door.
