The 48450 Set of 2 Om21 Open Freight Cars from the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) transports model railroaders back to Era III and, with its detailed replica, brings an important part of historic freight transport to your H0 layout. These sturdy cars were crucial to postwar economic reconstruction.
After World War II, the DB had one-third of the nearly 20,000 Om “Königsberg” cars ever built in its fleet. As early as 1951, 2,500 cars were redesignated as “Om21” and marked with the DB ownership designation. As one of the first car types in EUROP-Park, the Om21 enabled seamless freight transport between participating rail companies without complicated return processes. These robust cars remained an integral part of freight transport well into the late 1960s.
The model impresses with its faithfully reproduced front end and numerous added details, such as axle bearing caps and the multi-part brake system. The die-cast zinc car body ensures high stability and an authentic appearance. Even the hump plate has been reproduced in three dimensions on the inside to further enhance the realistic impression.
With a length over buffers of 209.2 mm and profiled wheel sets, the models offer excellent running characteristics. The close-coupling mechanism guarantees smooth connections and safe operation on any model railroad layout.
The 48450 Set of 2 Om21 Open Freight Cars is a successful combination of historical authenticity and technical perfection. It enriches any model railroad layout that aims to faithfully recreate Era III.
