As an example: In addition to German-built models, the DR retained large numbers of foreign freight cars after 1945. While initially every available freight car was used to fulfill transport tasks, efforts were soon made to achieve a certain degree of standardization within the car fleet. Consequently, surplus cars were preferred for conversion into railway service cars, a process that often extended their service life by many years. Covered freight cars were used in construction trains to store materials and supplies, as mobile workshops, and—after further conversion—as cultural, washroom, living, sleeping, and kitchen cars.
About the Model: Brawa presents the DR’s Gu pointed-roof car. The car impresses not only with its prototypical appearance but also with its high-quality features. Among other things, the car has been equipped with separately attached running boards and a close-coupling mechanism. The model is built to a scale of 1:87 and has a length of 105 mm.
