Brawa 49326 H0 Säuretopfwagen Z P, DRG, Ep.II 'BASF' Product Details

Description

About the model: Brawa presents the DRG "BASF" acid pot wagon Z [P] on a scale of 1:87. The wagon impresses with its precise reproduction of the board joints and the specially attached signs that give the model authenticity. Equipped with a multi-part brake system, this wagon is ideal for the detailed reproduction of freight trains on your model railway layout. All further information can be found under the features.

About the prototype: Tank wagons were unsuitable for transporting aggressive liquids such as acids for a long time. Although there were tanks with a rubber lining as early as the 1920s, pot wagons were generally used to transport such goods. Wagon builders usually used a 4.00 m or 4.50 m axle base and arranged ten or twelve earthenware pots on it, each with a capacity of 1000 - 1200. The pots are held by wooden and rubber supports, the box supports are stiffened by diagonal struts. The sloping floor is partially protected by a bitumen compound or lead sheet to allow better drainage of overflowing cargo. There is a wooden walkway between the pots. The pots are sealed with rubber or wooden plugs. A high bulkhead protects the personnel on the brakeman's platform, which is obligatory for caution wagons. Many small or large chemical companies had hired such wagons as private wagons from the respective railroad directorate. In the FRG, Degussa donated its last pot wagon to the Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum in 1985. At the DR, pot wagons could still be seen in use in 1990, and several associations have preserved wagons in their stock, including in Aschersleben, Magdeburg and Staßfurt.
