A Model to Follow: Work cars have always been indispensable to the railroad. For example, they were used at every construction site, no matter how small, to transport building materials such as ballast or tools. However, since these so-called X-cars could not generate revenue by transporting goods for third parties, efforts were made from the very beginning to find cost-effective solutions for procuring work cars. The obvious solution was to convert older-model cars into work cars and adapt them to the new requirements. Due to constantly changing demand and the retirement of worn-out cars, the number of X-cars fluctuated significantly between approximately 48,500 (1920), 25,000 (1930); 41,500 (1943); and 15,000 (1953). The Xr 35 model chosen by BRAWA is based on Gms 30-type cars that lost their car bodies in the early 1950s—or even earlier due to war damage. The remaining undercarriages were fitted with new, fixed side walls, thereby adapting the cars to their new areas of operation.
About the Model: Experience an authentic journey into Era III on a 1:87 scale with the DB X35 work car. In addition to a detailed appearance with exquisite printing and specially added highlights, the model also features, among other things, close-coupling kinematics and brake shoes at wheel level. The manufacturer authentically rounds out the model by including a road number. You’ll find all further details under “Features.”
