Brawa 49552 H0 Offener Güterwagen Ommstu, DR, Ep.IV 'Rekord Briketts' Product Details

Description

About the model: Brawa presents the DR open freight car Ommstu "Rekord Briketts" on a scale of 1:87. The car is a detailed model that impresses with many extra parts. Thanks to the free-standing ladders and a reproduction of the supports in the hopper, it is ideal for the realistic design of your model railway layout.

About the prototype: In order to realize a higher loading space of 40m3, the underframe and axle base of the previous Otmm wagons were extended by 500 mm. The first of these wagons with a capacity of 40 m3 was built by AW Paderborn on a trial basis in 1961. The design proved successful and so AW Kaiserslautern and Weiden built over 16,000 Otmm 70/Ed 090 wagons between 1961 and 1970, also using old Omm 37 profiles. The wagons - designated Fc 090 from 1980 - were used as single wagons and in block trains with all kinds of bulk goods. Due to a shortage of swing-roof wagons, they were also used covered with tarpaulins for transporting grain. Consequently, 1,500 wagons were fitted with hinged roofs in 1978/79 and designated as Tdgs-z 932. Many others were given a G/P changeover, thus becoming s-capable and designated as Fcs 090 or, from 1991, as Fcs 092 for further operation. DB AG took over 8500 Fc(s) 090 in 1994, which were retired by 2007; around 2600 of the Fcs 092 were still in service in 2012, with a further 786 wagons running as Fcs-x 092 in coal traffic.
