The Brawa 49630 H0 Uerdingen ZZ [P] "Aral" lightweight tank wagon is an exact replica of a four-axle tank wagon in lightweight construction as it was used on the German Federal Railroad (DB) in Era III. With its authentic "Aral" lettering and precise workmanship, this model is an enrichment for every H0 model railway layout.
The development of lightweight tank wagons began in 1939/40 when the Cologne-Deutz and Uerdingen wagon factories were commissioned by the military to develop special wagons for transporting large quantities of fuel. The Uerdingen design was characterized by a self-supporting boiler and longitudinal beams, which served to stabilize the longitudinal compressive forces. Due to the high payload and the compact design, the wagons could not be completely filled on all routes, which determined their areas of use.
After the Second World War, many of these wagons were reused or rebuilt. Companies such as VTG (Vereinigte Tanklager und Transportmittel GmbH) and oil companies such as Aral used the wagons in daily operations. The last generation of these wagons remained in use until the 1990s, before some of them were used as rail service wagons.
The Brawa brand is known for its high-quality model railroads, which are characterized by their attention to detail and technical precision. The 49630 lightweight tank wagon is a perfect example of this commitment. The model impresses with finely engraved bogies, specially attached spring assemblies and a detailed reproduction of the brake system. The metal wheels and the finely reproduced brake shoes ensure a realistic appearance and excellent running characteristics.
The model is designed for the 2-wire direct current system (DC) and has a length over buffers of 142.5 mm. It is equipped with a coupler pocket according to NEM and close coupler kinematics, which allows easy integration into existing train formations. The minimum radius for the use of this wagon is 360 mm. An AC wheelset exchange is easily possible (Brawa order no. 2188).
Era III (1949-1970) was a time of reconstruction and economic growth in Germany. The Deutsche Bundesbahn took over many of the vehicles remaining after the war, including Uerdingen tank wagons. These wagons were used in particular for mineral oil transportation and played a central role in the economic upswing of the post-war period.
The Brawa 49630 H0 Uerdingen ZZ [P] "Aral" lightweight tank wagon is a must for collectors and model railroaders who appreciate historical accuracy and technical perfection. With its high-quality workmanship and fine details, this tank car brings the charm of Era III directly to your layout.
