Would you like to enhance your DR freight trains with a historically accurate tank car model? The Brawa 49634 authentically reproduces a four-axle lightweight tank car from Era III—complete with typical DR lettering and exquisite detailing.
With a length over buffers of 142 mm and close-coupling kinematics, this car is state-of-the-art both technically and visually. It features bogies with three-point suspension, separately attached spring assemblies, and a finely detailed braking system. Metal wheels and finely engraved bogies ensure a realistic appearance. The brake shoes at wheel level and the separately attached axle brake linkage complete this high-quality model. Road number: 51-74-81 [P].
In the late 1930s, the Cologne-Deutz and Uerdingen railcar factories, in cooperation with the military, developed lightweight tank cars to supply the Wehrmacht with fuel. A characteristic feature was the self-supporting tank design, which saved on steel. Although these tank cars were material-efficient, they were prone to wear and tear. They had a capacity of 63 m³, but due to high axle loads, they could not be operated fully loaded everywhere.
After the war, the cars remained with the Deutsche Reichsbahn, and some were leased to large industrial companies such as PCK Schwedt. Many remained in service for decades and were eventually repurposed as railway service cars—a sight that could still be seen at many train stations well into the 2000s.
Whether as a single car in a classic mixed-freight train or in a consist of several tank cars—the Brawa 49634 brings GDR railway history to your model railroad layout.
