About the prototype: After the EKW 49 was converted to the KKd 49, the German Federal Railroad quickly turned its attention to the complete redevelopment of its own dust freight cars. The knowledge gained from the conversion and operation of the KKd 49 was immediately incorporated into the new design. The result was the KKds 55 wagon design, which was intended for the transportation of alumina. The vehicle frame rests on two type 931 Minden-Dorstfeld bogies. As the basic frame of the powder hoppers is incorporated into the load-bearing structure of the wagon, the wagons do not require internal longitudinal beams. This in turn had the advantage that the container floors could be pulled down well above the track.
The four equally sized silo containers had an emptying device with a loosening floor in each container. The load was conveyed out of the containers using compressed air.
The small series (only 24 units) ordered from the Talbot wagon factory were delivered to DB from 1954. In addition to transporting alumina, the wagons were also used for aluminum oxide, among other things. They were also rented out as private wagons to the relevant companies. The small total number was the reason why all of the wagons were taken out of service by 1998.
About the model: BRAWA is offering the DB Uacs946 "Südzucker" dust container car. The model was faithfully modeled on the original from Era IV on a scale of 1:87. The car shines with a light gray paint scheme and the finest printing as well as specially applied highlights. The car is also equipped with close coupling kinematics in accordance with the NEM standard. All further details can be found under the features.
