Would you like to add a typical example of German bulk freight transport to your Era IV freight trains? The Brawa 50696 Fads 176 is an open self-unloading car from the Deutsche Bundesbahn—ideal for transporting coal, coke, and ore in heavy block trains through the Ruhr and Saar regions.
With 137 mm length over buffers and NEM-compliant close-coupling kinematics, the car integrates perfectly into block trains. The multi-part braking system with brake shoes at wheel level, fine printing and paintwork, as well as separately attached signal holders ensure a realistic appearance on the layout. Road number: 31 80 696 0 416-9.
Starting in the late 1960s, the DB began procuring modern bulk cars for moisture-insensitive bulk cargo. The Fads 176 was based on UIC specifications and, together with the Fads 175 and 177 models, formed the backbone of block train service for coal and ore. They were frequently used on the Emsland route—for example, from Emden to the steel mills in the Ruhr region, hauled by two locomotives of the 043/044 series.
The cars operated on fixed routes and dominated the raw materials logistics of the German steel and energy industries for many years. With their robust bogies and large loading capacity, they were designed for heavy trains with a total weight of up to 4,000 metric tons.
Use the car in a block train with other Fads cars or mixed with Fals or Talbot cars. Ideal for layouts featuring industrial spurs, loading facilities, or port operations.
With the Brawa 50696, you’ll add a high-quality, detailed model to your layout that represents the realistic bulk freight transport of Era IV—robust, authentic, and convincing.
