Description

Brawa 50748 H0 Covered Goods Wagon Grhs, DR, Era III: Detailed reproduction of a versatile general cargo wagon

The Brawa 50748 H0 Covered Freight Car Grhs is a high-quality reproduction of a freight car of the German State Railroad (DR) from Era III. With its precise workmanship and numerous true-to-original details, this model authentically brings the freight transportation history of the post-war era to your H0 model railroad layout.

The prototype: DR boxcar Grhs

The development of the "Gs Oppeln" boxcar, the forerunner of the Grhs, began in 1936. The use of welding technology made it possible to reduce the weight of the car and set the maximum permissible speed at 90 km/h. The car had a wheelbase of 6000 mm. With an axle base of 6,000 mm and a pointed sprinkler system, the wagon was designed especially for fast general cargo transport. During the Second World War, around 28,000 wagons were built without hand brakes and 6,100 wagons with hand brakes. Many of these wagons survived the war and continued to be used after 1945 by various railroad administrations, including the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR).

The wagons were versatile and were often used in general cargo trains, but also in express and express trains. The robust design and adaptability made the Grhs one of the most important freight wagons of its time. The last wagons of this type were not taken out of service until the end of the 1970s.

Brawa - precision and attention to detail in model making

The Brawa brand is known for its exact replicas of historic railroad vehicles. The 50748 Grhs freight wagon impresses with its precise workmanship and numerous intricate details such as specially attached axle bearing covers, grab irons and steps. The openwork wagon body supports and the true-to-original axle brake linkage contribute to a realistic appearance. The prototypical frame structure and the finely reproduced brake systems make this model a real eye-catcher.

Technical details of the Brawa 50748 freight car

The model has a length over buffers of 112.6 mm and is designed for the 2-wire direct current system (DC). It has close coupling kinematics in accordance with the NEM standard, which makes it easy to integrate into existing train formations. The minimum radius for use is 360 mm. An AC wheelset exchange is possible without any problems (AC wheelset: Brawa order no. 2187).

Era III: Reconstruction and economic upswing

Era III (1949-1970) was a time of reconstruction and economic growth in East and West Germany. During this time, the Deutsche Reichsbahn used a large number of vehicles from the pre-war period. The Grhs covered freight wagons played a central role in the transportation of general cargo and were indispensable in national and international traffic.

Conclusion: An indispensable model for historic freight trains

The Brawa 50748 H0 Covered freight wagon Grhs is an excellent model for model railroaders and collectors who value historical accuracy. With its high-quality workmanship, detailed reproductions and precise engineering, this car is a perfect addition to any H0 model railroad layout.
