The Brawa 50978 H0 Gh03 "Glücksklee " milk w agon is a detailed reproduction of a historic milk transport wagon of the German Federal Railroad (DB) in Era III. With its precise workmanship, the striking "Glücksklee" lettering and the true-to-original details, this wagon brings freight traffic from the heyday of the dairy industry to your H0 model railroad layout.
The Royal Bavarian State Railroad procured two-axle milk cars from Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg (MAN) to make the transportation of milk cans more efficient. These wagons were specially designed for use in passenger trains to transport the perishable milk quickly and safely to the dairies. The wagons had a riveted underframe and truss axle brackets with a wheelbase of 4.50 meters. They were ventilated by Growe fans installed on the roof and ventilation slots on the end walls, which kept the milk optimally cooled even in summer temperatures.
The light-colored paint ensured that the interior did not overheat. There were large sliding doors on both sides, which moved in opposite directions and enabled the milk cans to be loaded and unloaded quickly - a decisive advantage during the short stops at the stations. The wagon was modernized in Era III and continued to be used for scheduled freight services on the German Federal Railways.
The inscription "Glücksklee" is reminiscent of one of the best-known brands in the dairy industry. Glücksklee products stood for freshness and quality and were widely used in the post-war period and during the economic miracle. The advertising on the milk wagons was not only a functional element, but also an effective advertising medium on Germany's rails.
The Brawa 50978 milk wagon impresses with its highly detailed reproduction. The outstanding features include intricate details such as extra fans, door latches and signal holders as well as the precisely reproduced fan grille. The finely reproduced board joints and the profiled spoked wheels made of die-cast zinc contribute to the authentic appearance. The wheels are also profiled on the inside, making the model a highlight both visually and technically.
The model has a length over buffers of 110.2 mm and is designed for the 2-wire direct current system (DC). It has close coupling kinematics in accordance with the NEM standard, which means that it can be easily integrated into existing train formations. The minimum radius for operation is 360 mm. An AC wheelset exchange is possible without any problems (AC wheelset: Brawa order no. 2187).
Era III (1949-1970) was characterized by reconstruction and the economic upswing in Germany. The Deutsche Bundesbahn played a central role in the transportation of goods such as foodstuffs, including perishable goods such as milk. The milk wagons were often used in mixed trains to transport fresh milk quickly and efficiently to the cities.
