The Brawa 50997 H0 Shis 708 telescoping hood car of the DB from Era IV is a splendid example of innovative transportation technology of the 1970s. Developed for the safe transportation of sheet steel coils that are sensitive to moisture, this flat car is characterized by its three interlocking hoods. These hoods can be moved depending on the load and open the five loading recesses in the trolley frame for loading and unloading the coils.
The Deutsche Bundesbahn ordered over 2,500 of these wagons, which underlines the importance and popularity of this model. The number of wagons actually built is even higher due to additional orders and rentals. With increasing age, the hoods became more maintenance-intensive, which is why some of the wagons were converted to sliding tarpaulins from 2002 and re-designated as Shimmns-ttu 772. Despite this conversion, many wagons are still in use today in their original condition with private operators.
