The Brawa 50998 H0 Shimms 708 telescopic hood wagon of the DB, Ep. IV, is a detailed model of the specialized flat wagon that was developed in the 1970s for transporting steel sheet rolls (coils). The three interlocking hoods of the wagon allow flexible loading by opening the five loading recesses in the wagon frame. The Deutsche Bundesbahn ordered over 2,500 of these wagons in two large batches, and the actual number was increased by further orders and rentals. While the hoods became more maintenance-intensive over time, 1,000 wagons were converted to sliding tarpaulins from 2002 and re-designated as Shimmns-ttu 772. Nevertheless, many of the original hood wagons are still in service.
