The Brawa 51001 H0 German Federal Railroad Era IV Shimmns-t 708 telescopic hood car is an impressive model that represents the innovations of the 1970s in freight transportation. This car was specially developed for the transportation of sheet steel coils, which are sensitive to moisture and have to be particularly protected against corrosion due to their manufacturing process.

The Shimmns-t 708, originally known as the Shis 708, is characterized by its three interlocking hoods, which enable flexible and easy loading. The hoods can be moved as required to reveal the five loading recesses embedded in the vehicle frame. The German Federal Railways ordered over 2,500 of these wagons in the 1970s, and the actual number of these vehicles is significantly higher due to further orders from other state railroads and rental companies.From 2002, DB AG replaced the high-maintenance hoods on 1,000 wagons with sliding tarpaulins and reclassified these vehicles as Shimmns-ttu 772. Nevertheless, vehicles in their original condition are still being used by private operators, which underlines the durability and versatility of this car.
