The Brawa 51009 H0 DBAG Shimmns-u 708 telescopic hood wagon from Era VI is a remarkable model that reflects the development of modern freight transportation. The coiled sheet steel rolls (coils) are particularly sensitive to moisture and corrosion, which is why the vehicle industry developed the special Shis 708 flat wagon in the 1970s, known as Shimmns 708 from 1987. This wagon has three interlocking hoods that allow easy loading and expose the five loading recesses embedded in the vehicle frame.

The German Federal Railways ordered over 2,500 of these wagons, which underlines the importance of this development. Further orders from other state railroads and leasing companies increased the number of these vehicles considerably. As the hoods became more maintenance-intensive over time, DB AG replaced the hoods on 1,000 wagons with sliding tarpaulins from 2002 and designated these wagons as Shimmns-ttu 772. Despite these modernizations, numerous wagons in their original condition are still in use with private hirers, which proves the longevity and success of this design.
