Brawa 51011 H0 Teleskophaubenwagen Shimmns, FS, Ep.V Product Details

Description

The Brawa 51011 H0 FS Shimmns telescopic hood car from Era V is a fascinating model that reflects modern freight transportation and the innovative engineering skills of the 1970s. Due to the rolling process during production, coiled sheet steel rolls (coils) are extremely sensitive to moisture. In order to transport these coils to the processing industry without corrosion damage, the vehicle industry developed a special flat wagon in the 1970s with three interlocking hoods, the Shis 708, known as the Shimmns 708 from 1987.

These hoods can be moved as required and open up the five loading recesses embedded in the vehicle frame, allowing easy loading. The Deutsche Bundesbahn ordered over 2,500 of these wagons in two large batches. However, additional orders from other state railroads and leasing companies meant that the actual number of vehicles of this type was significantly higher. As the hoods became more maintenance-intensive with increasing age, DB AG replaced the hoods on 1,000 wagons with sliding tarpaulins from 2002 and reclassified these vehicles as Shimmns-ttu 772. Despite these modernizations, many wagons are still in use in their original condition with private operators, which underlines the robustness and success of this design.
