The Brawa 51040 is a model railroad car in H0 scale that represents a passenger car (A4üe) of the German Federal Railroad (DB) from Era III. The type 39 express train cars, introduced by the Reichsbahn, were designed to increase the speed of passenger trains and reduce air turbulence. Welding technology and a smooth outer shell were increasingly used. Special features included side panels under the frame, outwardly offset entrance doors with a special folding mechanism and flush window frames. Due to the war, only 543 of the planned 1,000 cars were delivered between 1939 and 1940. After the war, the Deutsche Bundesbahn initially used the surviving carriages for the F-train network and later in normal D-trains. By the mid-1970s, the last apron coaches had been removed from the DB fleet. Some wagons remained with ÖBB and SNCF, while those remaining in the GDR were modernized.
