Are you looking for a special model for your Era IV freight trains? The Brawa 51197 Uikk 631 low-bed car from the Deutsche Bundesbahn brings a distinctive special-purpose car for heavy-haul transport to your layout—ideal for machinery, castings, or other compact heavy cargo.
With a length over buffers of 140 mm and NEM-compliant close-coupling kinematics, the car is ideally suited for transfer trains, plant-to-plant traffic, or industrial connections. The curved long-girder superstructure of the St 309a type is authentically reproduced, making the model instantly recognizable. Road number: 21 80 990 3 905-7.
Between 1957 and 1966, Krupp manufactured a total of 15 of these special low-bed cars for the Deutsche Bundesbahn. They were designed to transport small but heavy loads—with a maximum payload of up to 21 metric tons. Their compact design did not allow for an air brake, which is why only one wheel set was secured by a hand brake. In addition to the DB, the NS also used vehicles of the same design.
The Uikk 631 remained in the DB AG fleet until the 2000s. During Era IV, it was particularly prominent in special transport operations for machinery and industrial plant construction. Due to its rare design, the car is now a true rarity—both in its original form and as a model.
Combine the low-bed car with open freight cars, tank cars, or covered specialty cars. It pairs particularly well with diesel locomotives such as the BR 290, V100, or electric locomotives of the BR 140/150 series—a real eye-catcher in a mixed freight train.
The Brawa 51197 offers not only technical finesse and a striking silhouette, but also a piece of rare railcar history—perfect for collectors, operational model railroaders, and anyone looking for variety on their tracks.
