Description

Brawa 51249 H0 Covered freight car G10, DB, Era III: A classic of post-war freight transportation

The Brawa 51249 H0 Covered freight wagon G10 is an authentic reproduction of the legendary freight wagon of the German Federal Railroad (DB) from Era III. With its detailed reproduction and prototypical imprinting, this model represents an important part of German rail freight traffic in the 1950s and 1960s.

The prototype: A wagon for all occasions

The origin of the G10 goes back to the development of the German State Railway Wagon Association (DWV). From 1911, covered freight wagons were built on the basis of the A2 pattern sheet, which were suitable for transporting general cargo, agricultural products and other light to medium-heavy loads. The Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG) made extensive use of these wagons, and by 1934 there were over 121,770 of them in the fleet. Thanks to their versatility, they became the backbone of freight transportation and outlasted several generations.

After the Second World War, the Deutsche Bundesbahn continued to use many of the surviving wagons. The robust design and modernizations such as the installation of air brakes made the G10 an indispensable part of the DB freight network. The models converted as brake vans or integrated into special trains were used on almost all main and branch lines.

Brawa - Historical accuracy and maximum precision

Brawa has reproduced the G10 down to the smallest detail. The finely reproduced board joints, openwork car body supports and the extra axle bearing covers provide a realistic appearance. The precise printing and paintwork with the road number 145 932 make the car an authentic model that enriches any H0 layout.

Technical details of the Brawa 51249 G10 wagon

The model has a length over buffers of 110.3 mm and is designed for the 2-wire direct current system (DC). The close coupling kinematics and the NEM coupling shafts enable simple and safe connection with other cars and locomotives. It is also possible to replace the wheel sets for operation with alternating current (AC).

Era III: The heyday of the German Federal Railroad

Era III (1949-1970) marked a phase of reconstruction and modernization of the German rail network. The Deutsche Bundesbahn modernized many of the freight wagons built during the war and adapted them to the new requirements. The G10 remained a central component of freight traffic before it was gradually replaced by more modern wagons such as the Gms54.

Conclusion: A must for historically correct freight trains

The Brawa 51249 H0 G10 boxcar is an ideal addition to model railroad layouts that reproduce authentic train formations of Era III. With its precise workmanship, numerous details and true-to-original printing, this model is a highlight on any layout.
