The Brawa 51254 H0 Covered freight car G is a detailed and precise reproduction of the robust and widely used freight cars of the German State Railroad (DR) in Era IV. With its high-quality workmanship and numerous prototypical details, this model is ideal for freight trains in the style of the GDR of the 1970s and 1980s.
The origins of this freight wagon lie in the association wagons of the German State Railway Wagon Association (DWV), the basic concept of which was developed from 1911 and continuously improved over the years. After the Second World War, the German Reichsbahn of the GDR took over many of these wagons and used them for freight transport. Over time, many wagons were modernized to meet the requirements of the increasing transport volume.
The DR carried out numerous technical modifications in Era IV, including the replacement of the original plain bearings with roller bearings, the introduction of improved braking systems and the changeover to the international UIC numbering system. The G car shown here was used for the transportation of general cargo, machinery and agricultural products and was an indispensable part of GDR freight traffic.
The Brawa model impresses with its high level of detail and precise workmanship. The finely reproduced board joints and openwork car body supports give the car a realistic appearance. Extra axle bearing covers, signal brackets and grab irons round off the precise design. The high-quality paint and printing in the typical design of Era IV emphasize the historical authenticity.
The car has a length over buffers of 107.2 mm and is designed for the 2-wire direct current system (DC). The close coupling kinematics and the NEM coupling shafts allow easy coupling and prototypical operation in freight trains. It is also possible to replace the wheel sets with alternating current (AC) wheel sets.
Era IV (1965-1990) was characterized by the modernization of the railroad system and the introduction of international standards. During this period, the Deutsche Reichsbahn focused increasingly on technical improvements to its vehicles in order to meet the growing demands of freight transport. The G-wagon of the type Gklm191 or Gw played a central role in this and was used on numerous routes in Germany and abroad.
The Brawa 51254 H0 Covered freight car (Gw) G is an indispensable addition to any model railroad layout that wants to realistically depict freight traffic on the German State Railroad in Era IV. With its high level of detail and the many possible uses, this model is an enrichment for your fleet.
