Description

Brawa 51272 H0 Heavy Load Car SSt125 "RWE", DRG, Ep. II - The Heavyweight for Extraordinary Transports

The SSt125 "RWE" heavy load car is an impressive piece of railroad history that was specially developed for transporting oversized and extremely heavy loads. With its remarkable design and load capacity, this model car highlight from Brawa impressively demonstrates how heavy load transportation was carried out in the 1920s and 1930s. The car is not only a historical homage, but also a fascinating model for any sophisticated H0 model railroad layout.

The prototype: A masterpiece of heavy-duty engineering

In 1928, the Rheinisch Westfälische Elektrizitätswerk A.-G. Essen (RWE) placed an order with Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg (MAN) for the construction of two carrying beak wagons. These were to be able to transport the constantly growing number of transformers efficiently and safely. The design was listed in the list of exceptional transports under sketch 125 and had a maximum load capacity of 168 tons, spread over 18 axles. The characteristic riveted carrying beaks and the enormous length of 27.5 m over buffers made the SSt125 an impressive sight.

Transport was usually carried out as "exceptional transport" at a reduced speed (maximum 40 km/h) due to the large loads, which often exceeded the vehicle's limits. On narrow bridges or downhill stretches, even walking speed was maintained to ensure safety. During regular journeys in unloaded condition, a speed of up to 65 km/h was permitted - this was later increased to 80 km/h by the DB and the installation of roller bearings.

One of the wagons, originally stationed at the Deutsche Reichsbahn in Cologne Kendenich, was later preserved as a museum piece and handed over to the Bahnwelt Darmstadt Kranichstein.

The model: Accurately detailed and versatile

The Brawa model of the SSt125 heavy goods wagon is accurately reproduced down to the smallest detail. The characteristic truss beaks and the four bogies with a total of 18 axles make for an impressive sight on the model railway layout. Thanks to the close coupling kinematics in accordance with the NEM standard, the car can be easily integrated into freight trains. The new transformer supplied can either be fitted or removed to use the wagon in different scenarios.

Another highlight is the high mobility of the transformer, which swivels in sharply on curves and thus enables a realistic representation even on complex routes. The detailed running gear, the precise braking systems and the intricately designed platforms and railings round off the overall visual appearance.

Possible applications: Ideal for heavy goods trains and historical scenarios

The SSt125 is ideal for use in historical heavy goods trains of Era II. In combination with other heavy-duty or special wagons, realistic replicas of extraordinary transports can be created that will make every model railroader's heart beat faster.
