Are you looking for an authentic and historically significant flat car for your Era I layout? The Brawa 51340 depicts the legendary SSlm based on design sheet Ce 168—one of the earliest heavy-duty flatcars of the K.P.E.V., which impressively recreates the roots of modern rail freight transport.
With a length over buffers of 231 mm and NEM-compliant close-coupling kinematics, the model offers not only reliable operation but also a high degree of prototypical accuracy. The die-cast zinc car floor ensures high stability, while finely detailed undercarriage, separately attached steps and handrails, axle brake linkage and axle bearing caps underscore the model’s delicate design. Metal wheels and brake shoes flush with the wheel surface round out the picture. The car stanchions are plug-in and are included with the model. Cargo is not included—ideal conditions for your own loading ideas.
Around 1910, the K.P.E.V. began developing a heavy-duty rail car capable of carrying up to 35 metric tons and accommodating a load length of 18 meters. Between 1912 and 1928, over 2,600 of these cars were manufactured in several production batches. Characteristic features of this vehicle type were the delicate truss structure and the perforated steel floor. Thanks to its robust construction, many of these cars remained in service for decades afterward—including with the DRG, DB, DR, and European railways.
With the road number Essen 119 169, this car is assigned to the Royal Prussian Railway Administration’s fleet. It is ideal for use in heavy freight trains, for example, carrying raw materials, machinery, or steel sections. The car also cuts an impressive figure on military trains or in port facilities.
Combine this car with other Era I vehicles such as box-type steam locomotives, unit trains, or Prussian open and covered cars. Thanks to its open design and flexible loading capabilities, this car is also ideal for custom layouts.
With the Brawa 51340, you’re bringing a masterpiece of historic railway engineering to your layout—a rolling monument to early heavy-haul logistics, perfectly rendered in H0.
