The Brawa 51342 H0 SSlm 16 Bogie Flat Car, DB, Era III is a finely detailed model of the Deutsche Bundesbahn and is ideal for freight trains, heavy-haul transport, and yard scenes from Era III.
The prototype traces its origins to the development of railcars with greater load capacity. Beginning around 1910, the K.E.P.V. focused on designing cars suitable for large and heavy loads. This led to the development of a car type with a loading length of 18 m and a load capacity of up to 35 t.
Between 1912 and 1928, a total of approximately 2,650 cars were ordered in several production batches based on design specification Ce 168. These cars were characterized by their delicate truss structure and a car floor made of perforated sheet metal.
After World War II, the fleet size fluctuated significantly. In the early 1950s, the two German state railways together still had about 1,000 cars of the SSlm 16 and SSlu series. Further retirements reduced the number of serviceable cars until the last vehicles of this type were taken out of service in the 1970s.
The model features a die-cast zinc car floor, a finely detailed undercarriage, and separately attached steps, handrails, axle brake linkages, and axle bearing caps. The car stanchions are included individually and can be inserted.
