Are you looking for a typical freight car from the early Deutsche Bundesbahn era with a special eye-catching feature? The Brawa 51355 Glmmhs 57 from the Deutsche Bundesbahn combines historical accuracy with an eye-catching advertising design for the traditional brand Miele —an Era III classic that no layout should be without.
With a length over buffers of 143 mm and NEM-compliant close-coupling kinematics, this car is equally at home on a collector’s shelf or in active service. Equipped with bogies featuring three-point mounting, brake shoes at wheel level, separately mounted axle brake linkage, and a brake system, the model impresses with its exceptional attention to detail. The scale-accurate narrow frame and internally profiled metal wheel sets add further highlights.
The Glmmhs 57 is based on the Gmhs 53 but was lengthened by approximately 2 m. With its standardized 2 m-wide loading door, it was ideally suited for general cargo transport and was widely used in express freight service—in some cases even on passenger trains thanks to its electric heating cable. Between 1953 and 1958, approximately 12,000 units were built; many of them were leased on a long-term basis and featured advertising lettering—as is the case with this model bearing the Miele logo.
The car bears the road number 217 288 and features an authentic Miele brand advertising design. Such leased advertising cars were specifically used for branding purposes and traveled throughout Germany—a real eye-catcher in any freight train and a piece of advertising and transportation history on your model railroad layout.
Whether in a local freight train, as part of an express freight consist, or in yard operations: the Glmmhs 57 pairs perfectly with BR 50, 86, or V60 locomotives. When combined with other covered freight cars or advertising cars, it makes the biggest impact—especially at stations, on loading tracks, and in transfer traffic.
With the Brawa 51355, you’re not just getting a fine model, but also a piece of German industrial and railway history for your H0 layout—perfect for anyone who wants to combine historical accuracy with eye-catching design.
