Description

Pre-War Elegance – Brawa 58192 H0 AB4ü-38 Passenger Car, DRG, Era II

With the Brawa 58192 H0 AB4ü-38 Passenger Car, DRG, Era II, you can experience the technical and design excellence of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the late 1930s. This so-called “apron car” epitomizes streamlined comfort in Era II express train service—and brings a piece of railroad history to your model railroad layout with its high level of detail and technical sophistication.

A car with character and history

The AB4ü-38 was part of the innovative series of express train cars featuring a skirted body to reduce aerodynamic drag. The Brawa 58192 depicts one of these cars in its typical DRG configuration, with a length over the buffers of 250.7 mm and in the exact 1:87 scale. The two-class configuration was typical of high-quality express train services before World War II.

Technical Details & Features True to the Prototype

The model is equipped with metal axle holders, prototype-accurate axle bearing caps, brake shoes at wheel level, and a multi-part brake linkage. The complete reproduction of the vehicle floor ensures a harmonious overall appearance even underneath the car. The interior lighting is pre-wired and can be easily retrofitted.

Detailed interior and exterior design

The car features an variant-specific interior layout for 1st and 2nd class, as well as fine exterior details such as attached handrails and an exact replica of the entrance doors. The distinctive skirt shape is faithfully reproduced and gives the car its characteristic side profile.

The Prototype: Progress on Rails

The DRG’s AB4ü-38 cars were a testament to technical progress in passenger car manufacturing. With aerodynamic bodywork, flush windows, and state-of-the-art welding technology, they were intended to revolutionize long-distance passenger travel. Due to the war, their service was limited; nevertheless, many cars survived and were put back into service after the war by DB, DR, ÖBB, or SNCF—some even as late as the 1970s.

For enthusiasts of the Reichsbahn era

The Brawa 58192 AB4ü-38 is a must-have for any model railroader focused on Era II. Whether as a single car or in a train set—this elegant express train car is a real eye-catcher with authentic technology and high-quality construction.
