Are you looking for a striking electric locomotive with East German engineering history and current Era VI lettering? The Brawa 58228 Electric Locomotive 242 of the Pressnitz Valley Railroad brings historical substance and modern digital technology to your DC layout - complete with built-in locomotive sound and the finest detailing.
The locomotive is equipped with a Doehler & Haass decoder and built-in locomotive sound. Two traction tires, a finely detailed running gear and a powerful, slant-grooved 5-pole motor with two flywheels ensure impressive driving characteristics. The lighting functions including cab lighting (Digital EXTRA) ensure realistic scenes, even at night.
Metal frames, metal wheels and prototypical, multi-part roof equipment with free-standing lines underline the quality of the model. Metal roof pantographs are delicately realized (without function for current collection). Extra windshield wipers and the coupler pocket according to NEM round off the model - ideal for modern DC systems.
The class E11 (later 242) was the first new electric locomotive to be built in the GDR and was developed out of the need to haul the heaviest express trains at 90 km/h on gradients of up to 10 per thousand. Developed in cooperation with the VEB LEW Hennigsdorf, technical principles were adapted from Western developments - but at the same time completely new solutions were found for the electrical part. Two prototypes were tested from 1960 and put into regular service. One of them, 211 001-3, has been preserved to this day and is on display in the DB Museum Halle/Saale.
In Era VI, the model represents an operational museum or private railway locomotive of the Pressnitz Valley Railway - perfect for model railroaders who want to combine GDR technology with modern operational scenarios. With a length over buffers of 187 mm and a minimum radius of 360 mm, the model is suitable for a variety of layouts.
The Brawa 58228 is a real treat for DC digital railroaders who appreciate both the historical background and modern Era VI applications. Compact, powerful and fully equipped - a model with history and a future!
