Brawa 58260 H0 Express Train Car Büm 233, DB, Era IV Product Details

Description

Are you looking for a true-to-original Deutsche Bundesbahn express train car for your Era IV layout?

Then the Brawa 58260 H0 Express Train Car Büm 233 “DB 51 80 22-40 980-0” is exactly the right model for you. With prototypical features, a high level of detail, and a well-thought-out design, this car brings the comfort and style of the DB passenger trains from the 1970s and 1980s right to your model railroad layout.

Technical Details at a Glance

The model is built to H0 scale (1:87) and is designed for operation on a 2-wire direct current (DC) system. It has a length over buffers (LüP) of 303 mm. The interior lighting is pre-wired and can be retrofitted as needed. The car is equipped with a NEM-compliant coupler housing and close-coupling kinematics and is compatible with the electric coupler from the BRAWA lineup. It does not feature a digital interface or sound functions.

Authentic design with attention to detail

The Büm 233 express train car is equipped with hinged folding doors and scale-accurate 1000-mm compartment windows. An exact reproduction of the butt-welded roofs, separately attached steps, handrails, and a separately mounted alternator on the bogie underscore the attention to detail of this model. The 094/096-type wheel sets feature corrugated wheel discs on both sides, giving the car a realistic appearance even in motion. The rubber bead transitions at the car ends are spring-loaded, allowing for a representation true to the original when the cars are coupled in a train.

The Prototype – Comfort for the “Travelers of the New Era”

The Group 53 express train cars formed the backbone of the Bundesbahn’s long-distance trains from the mid-1950s onward. Developed by the BZA Minden under Dr.-Ing. Mielich, the result was a modular system featuring innovative details such as rubber-beaded transitions, wide transfer windows, and optimized seating comfort. The Büm233-class cars, in particular, stood out for their spacious layout and modern amenities. They defined the look of the F-trains as well as high-end D-trains for several decades and remained in service until the early 1990s. Their longevity and classic design also made them attractive for museum operations.
