With the Brawa 58267 H0 Bm 235 Express Train Car from the Deutsche Bundesbahn, you can bring a piece of German railroad history to your model railroad layout. This car from Era IV represents the DB’s legendary transition to the InterCity ’79 program, in which hourly trains in both car classes ran through Germany for the first time. Built to scale, with accurate coloring, true-to-prototype technology, and a pre-installed LED interior light, this model is a real highlight for all enthusiasts of classic express train cars.
For decades, the name Brawa has stood for the highest quality in H0 model railroading. Especially in the area of passenger cars, the manufacturer impresses with a combination of historical precision, the finest detailing, and technical sophistication. The Bm 235 fits seamlessly into this tradition. With a multitude of separately attached parts, spring-loaded couplers, and a realistic interior, this car has been recreated as faithfully as possible to the prototype at a 1:87 scale. The result is an exclusive model that delights both as a display piece and when actively run on a layout.
The Bm 235 is based on the Bm 234 car type and was specially adapted starting in 1979 for the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s InterCity network. To save costs, new developments were avoided, and existing or already ordered cars were modified instead. Among other things, they were equipped with:
The result was an express train car certified for 200 km/h, which was used in both IC service and later in InterRegio. The first Bm 235 cars ran in the typical ocean blue and beige color scheme of the DB, but were later also painted in IC brand colors or even in the ICE design. A total of exactly 721 cars of this type were built between 1979 and 1982.
The Brawa model bears the road number 51 80 22-90 300-0 and realistically depicts one of these cars in Era IV—that is, during the classic InterCity transition period. The true-to-original decals, scale-accurate windows, and faithfully reproduced design make this car the perfect addition to your express train formations from the late ’70s and early ’80s.
The Brawa Bm 235 offers numerous technical and visual highlights:
The underside also impresses with numerous details: The alternator is a separate part, as are the handrails, steps, and buffers. The roof is modeled after the prototype as a butt-welded design—a typical feature of InterCity cars from that era.
With a length over buffers of 303 mm, the car is optimally sized for use on layouts with generous radii. Thanks to the two-wire direct current (DC) system, it is immediately ready for use on all standard H0 layouts. The interface for digital retrofitting is provided in a solderable version, which also allows for later integration into digital layouts.
Hardly any other car symbolizes the modernization of the Deutsche Bundesbahn as much as the Bm 235. With the Brawa 58267, you’re not only getting a superbly crafted model, but also a piece of German railway history in miniature format. The perfect combination of aesthetics, functionality, and technical finesse makes this car the ideal addition to IC train sets, Era IV layouts, or thematically focused collections.
Thanks to the integrated LED interior lighting, the precise reproduction of the prototype’s features, and compatibility with modern coupling technology, this car is a true highlight for both display case enthusiasts and demanding layout operations. Add this car to your train set—for maximum authenticity and visual enjoyment on any track.
