With the Brawa 58268 H0 Bm 235 Express Coach, you can add a particularly authentic model of the German Federal Railroad from Era IV to your model railroad layout. The car is specifically designed for operation on 3-wire AC layouts and impresses with a wealth of fine details, an exact reproduction of the technology, and integrated LED interior lighting. Whether as part of a classic InterCity train or as an addition to your Era IV collection—this car offers the highest level of prototypical accuracy and functionality.
The Brawa brand stands for exceptionally detailed models that combine scale accuracy and functionality at the highest level. The Bm 235 is part of this high-quality model series and features numerous separately applied components, an era-appropriate interior, and pre-prepared electrical coupling compatibility. For enthusiasts of InterCity trains from the late 1970s and 1980s, this model is a real highlight—now also specially designed for the AC system.
The Bm 235 was a further development of the Bm 234 type and was introduced as part of the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s InterCity ’79 program. The goal was to offer hourly IC connections in two classes of service. Instead of building completely new cars, it was decided to convert existing or already ordered cars:
Within three years, 721 cars were produced, which were introduced into InterCity service starting in 1979 in the DB’s characteristic ocean blue and beige color scheme. Later, they were also used on InterRegio services and received various repaints—including the ICE color scheme in the 2000s.
The Brawa 58268 depicts one of these cars in the classic Era IV version. The road number 51 80 22-90 300-0 is faithfully applied, and the windows are rendered to scale—a testament to the attention to detail that Brawa brings to its models.
Unlike the DC version, the Brawa 58268 is AC-compatible and specially prepared for use on 3-wire systems such as Märklin. A major advantage is the built-in LED interior lighting, which guarantees even and realistic illumination even on larger layouts. This creates a particularly atmospheric ambiance during nighttime operation—without the need for additional retrofitting.
The technical features leave nothing to be desired:
The interior is authentically rendered for Era IV, including realistic seats and layout. The roof, too—just like on the original—is made with a butt-welded construction, perfectly replicating the typical design of express train cars from that era.
With the Brawa 58268, you’re adding a classic DB express train car to your AC layout that impresses with its prototypical appearance, high-quality technology, and comfortable features. The factory-integrated LED interior lighting is a clear plus for anyone who wants to present their train in a realistic and atmospheric way—without any DIY work or additional parts.
Thanks to its standard-compliant coupler, compatibility with BRAWA accessories, and intricate detailing, this car can be easily integrated into existing IC or InterRegio train formations. Whether in operation or on display: This model pays homage to DB’s high-quality passenger service in the 1980s and brings a genuine InterCity feel to your tracks.
