With the Brawa 58270 H0 Bm 235 Express Train Car, you can add a high-quality model of a typical Deutsche Bundesbahn InterCity car to your layout. Designed in the distinctive ocean blue and beige color scheme of Era IV, this car impresses with its precise reproduction of the prototype, built-in LED interior lighting, and numerous intricate details. Perfect for DC operation—and a must-have for anyone who wants to authentically recreate the IC trains of the 1970s and 1980s.
Models from Brawa have always been synonymous with exceptional detailing, scale accuracy, and high-quality craftsmanship. The Bm 235 is part of this premium express train car series and recreates an important milestone in German railway history. With lovingly crafted accessories, realistic paint schemes, and standard interior lighting, the Brawa 58270 is the perfect choice for discerning H0-scale model railroaders.
As part of the ambitious InterCity ’79 Program of the Deutsche Bundesbahn, a two-class system was to be offered hourly on long-distance routes for the first time. This required second-class passenger cars suitable for long-distance travel and certified for speeds of 200 km/h. To make the transition as efficient as possible, the DB opted against developing new designs and instead relied on existing Bm 234-series cars, which were modified accordingly.
The modifications included, among other things:
The new type designation was henceforth Bm 235. In total, 721 cars were modified accordingly between 1979 and 1982. From then on, they defined the landscape of IC service during Era IV and were later also used as additional cars on InterRegio routes.
The Brawa 58270 bears the road number 51 80 22-90 488-3 and exemplifies this versatility within the Deutsche Bundesbahn fleet.
The Bm 235 model impresses with a multitude of well-thought-out details and realistic features:
For optimal running characteristics, the car is equipped with a NEM-compliant coupler shaft and close-coupling kinematics. This ensures a tight coupling distance while allowing for smooth cornering. The Brawa 58270 is also compatible with the electric coupler from the Brawa lineup and can thus be integrated into modern train configurations.
The model is designed for the 2-wire direct current (DC) system and is ready for immediate use. A solderable interface allows for optional digital retrofitting for those who wish to expand their fleet to digital operation.
The Brawa 58270 combines an authentic representation of the prototype with high functionality and modern ease of use. The LED interior lighting is already integrated, the detailing is impressive across the board, and the technical features allow for hassle-free installation in any Era IV train set. Whether as part of a complete IC train or as a single car—this model brings the elegance and comfort of the InterCity era to your tracks.
Thanks to its high build quality and precise scale, the car is also appealing to collectors. The combination of operational performance and display appeal makes it a true all-rounder in the H0 segment. So if you’re looking for a distinctive, authentically rendered DB express train car, the Brawa 58270 is exactly the right choice.
