Historical prototype originating with the DRG

The D4üe is based on the welded baggage cars built between 1935 and 1937, which were originally developed for the Deutsche Reichsbahn. After World War II, some of these cars were added to the ÖBB fleet. There, they continued to operate largely unchanged and were a staple of long-distance rail service in Austria for many years. They were used on international express trains and in domestic service and remained in service until the late 1970s.
