About the model: The DB Class 144 electric locomotive is an H0 model from the BRAWA brand and comes from Era IV. The locomotive shines with an era-appropriate and prototypical look as well as numerous features that make this model a real highlight. The model is equipped with a sound decoder and has a three-light headlights and two marker lights. In addition to technical features, the locomotive also impresses with fine details, such as free-standing roof lines and many extra parts.
About the prototype: After the "Anschluss" of Austria, the E44 locomotives were also to be used on the Alpine lines of the "Ostmark". In order to minimize brake block wear on the descent, it was necessary to install an electric resistance brake. The DRB ordered such an additional device for the machines of the E44 152 - 191 batch and designated the substructure type as E44W for "resistance brake". Due to the war, only the E44W 152 - 183 were delivered between 1943 and 1951. Externally, the machines stood out above all due to the exhaust chimneys of the brake resistors on the roof. After 1945, the DB only maintained the resistance brake on the 16 Freiburg locomotives used in the Höllental and designated these as E44.11 from 1962, and as BR 145 after 1968. The E-brake was removed from all others or decommissioned in the event of damage. E44 1170 and 1180 were preserved.
